Model Adult Behavior

I happened to be seeing a pro basketball game on TV at a cafe the other day. The coach in his suit and tie would scream and yell at his players and the referees. We've also seen them tossing chairs. This is horrible behavior to model for children. The most important thing for a staff is to model professional, courteous behavior towards each other. This is much more important than clubbish collegiality. If teachers maintain professional and courteous standards of behavior, collegial friendships will develop naturally. Teachers with political and social agendas can often cause discord at a school and among the staff. Harassing other teachers or creating an unpleasant or hostile work environment because of personal political and social views (regardless of how much they believe in what they are doing) is harmful, unprofessional, and non-collegial behavior.
